Amala Yoga – Its Meaning & Role in Vedic Astrology

Yogas are of utmost importance in Vedic astrology. But, one needs a lot of expertise and skill to interpret the relative strength of them and determine how effective they really are in astrological predictions.

Yogas are formed when certain specific planetary combinations occur in a horoscope. These yogas may be benefic or malefic depending upon their placement in the chart. There are hundreds of yogas which are considered for the purpose of analysing a horoscope.

In this article, Amala Yoga of Hindu Astrology is explained which is benefic in nature and said to occur under the following circumstances:

·      When a benefic planet occupies the tenth house from Lagna (the Ascendant or the first house) or the Moon.

‘A Benefic planet’ here means any natural benefic planet such as Jupiter, Venus, well placed Mercury and waxing Moon.

·      When a specific benefic planet as per Ascendant or Lagna occupies the tenth house from Lagna or the Moon. For example, for Cancer or Leo Lagna, if Mars (the Yogakaraka or the benefic planet) occupies the tenth house , Amala Yoga is formed.

Results: The native having this yoga will be fortunate, famous, prosperous
and wealthy. He will have good rise in his profession or business.
He will be a person of high principles, character and many other
                good qualities.

But, one thing that the readers of this blog should keep in mind is that the above-mentioned effects of this yoga are general in nature. The planet forming this yoga should not be weak, debilitated, afflicted, or in aspect with any malefic planet. It is also very important to take into consideration the strength of the house and its lord, location of the lord, conjunctions, planets in that particular house and various aspects over it, before arriving at any conclusion.
