Vaastu Shastra-Pre-construction Principles

In Sanskrit, the word ‘vaastu’ means ‘a dwelling’. Vaastu Shastra is an ancient Hindu Architectural practice that guides us how to do construction of houses, shops, factories and other commercial buildings in tune with the Laws of Nature for the well being of an individual as well as humanity as a whole. Vaastu Shastra deals with the various aspects of designing and building ‘living environment’ that is in harmony with physical and metaphysical forces. We may lead a peaceful, healthy, happy and prosperous life if these principles of Vaastu Shastra are applied properly and judiciously.

In this article, a few important pre-construction principles are enumerated as under:

·      Begin the excavation in a plot for the foundation from the north-east, then in the north-west, then move to the south-east and finally go to the south-west.
·      Laying of the foundation should commence from the south-west, proceed to the south-east, then in the north-west and finally the north-east.
·      While constructing a house, the maximum area possible in the north-east should be kept open to receive sun light.
·      Balconies should ideally be in the north and east. Open grills and railings are good for balconies.
·      A tree, electric pole, open drain, or hospital should not be located directly in front of your home’s entrance gate.
·      The parapet or the compound wall in the south and west should be higher than in the east and north.
·      Flowering and medicinal plants should ideally be grown in the east, north-east, north or north-west parts of the plot.
·      Tall trees in the south-east or south-west, and medium-height trees in the west or south grow well.
·      The servant’s quarters or watchman’s outhouse, totally independent of the main building, should be located in the south or south-east corner of the plot.
·      The garage should be built in the south-east or north-west corner.
·      If you want to have a well dug, or a pump installed, the ideal place is the north-east corner, or the north side of the plot. Wells or sumps in north or north-east increases wealth and prosperity of children respectively.
·      A well or under- ground water storage should never be in the west or south-west parts of a plot. A bore well or a water tank in the south causes a dip in cash flows.
·      The overhead tank should be in the west or between the west and south-west parts of the plot.
·      A basement or cellar should be avoided. However, if required, it’s advised to locate it in the north, north-east or eastern sides of the plot.
·      A roof sloping towards the south or west causes financial instability.
·      Flowers such as lilies and lotus bring about longevity, luck, peace and prosperity.
·      The minimum height of the ceiling of a building should be nine feet.
·      The construction materials should be stored in the south-east part of a building.
·      You can place pictures of your family and friends in the eastern parts of your home.
·      Any vertical addition should be made in the south or west of an existing building.
·      Rain water should flow to the north-east corner and get out of the house from the north.

Vesi Yoga – Its Meaning & Role in Vedic Astrology

Yogas are of utmost importance in Vedic astrology. But, one needs a lot of expertise and skill to interpret the relative strength of them and determine how effective they really are in astrological predictions.

Yogas are formed when certain specific planetary combinations occur in a horoscope. These yogas may be benefic or malefic depending upon their placement in the chart. There are hundreds of yogas which are considered for the purpose of analysing a horoscope.

In this article, Vesi Yoga of Hindu Astrology is explained which may be benefic or melefic in nature and said to occur under the following circumstances:

·      When there is/are planet(s) except Moon, Rahu & Ketu in second house from Sun, Vesi Yoga is formed.

·    However, the result of this Yoga depends upon the presence of the benefic or malefic planet(s) in this house. If benefics occupy the second house from Sun, Subhavesi Yoga is caused; and if there are malefics in the second house, the yoga is called as Papavesi Yoga. Subhavesi Yoga gives good results whereas Papavesi Yoga would yield bad results
Results: The person having benefic planet(s) in second house from Sun will be honest, fortunate and would lead a happy life. He will possess strong determination & leadership qualities. He rises in life due to his own hard efforts and numerous social contacts.

On the other hand, if malefic planet(s) occupy the second house from Sun, obviously, quite the reverse holds good and the native will face many problems in life.

One more thing that the readers of this blog should keep in mind is that the above- mentioned effects of this yoga are general in nature. It is very important to take into consideration the strength of the planets forming this yoga and the house and its lord, location of the lord, the exaltations and debilitations of the house-lords, conjunctions, planets in that particular house and various aspects over it, before arriving at any conclusion.
